Install Godot Launcher with winget

Use winget to install, update, or remove Godot Launcher from PowerShell or Command Prompt. The package ID is GodotLauncher.Launcher.

Requirements

You need Windows 10 version 1809 (build 17763) or later, or Windows 11, with App Installer installed.

Run winget --info to check whether winget is available. If the command is not recognised, install or update App Installer through the Microsoft Store. See Microsoft's WinGet installation guidance if it is still unavailable.

Install Godot Launcher

Run this command to install the latest Godot Launcher version available from the winget source:

Install Godot Launcher
> winget install --id GodotLauncher.Launcher --exact --source winget

Follow any agreement or administrator prompts. When installation finishes, open Godot Launcher from the Windows Start menu.

Check for and install updates

Run the first command and look for GodotLauncher.Launcher in the list. Run the second command to install its update.

Check available updates without installing
> winget upgrade
Install the Godot Launcher update
> winget upgrade --id GodotLauncher.Launcher --exact --source winget

The upgrade command without arguments only lists updates. The command with the package ID installs the update.

No applicable update found means winget found no applicable update in the selected source. A newer release may appear on GitHub before it becomes available through winget.

Check installed and available versions

  • Run winget list --id GodotLauncher.Launcher --exact to see the installed version recognised by winget.
  • Run winget show --id GodotLauncher.Launcher --exact --source winget to see the version and installer available from the source.

Uninstall or reinstall

Uninstall Godot Launcher
> winget uninstall --id GodotLauncher.Launcher --exact --source winget

To reinstall, wait for the uninstall to finish, then run the install command.

Troubleshooting

  • Package not found: Run winget source update --name winget, then retry the command.
  • App Installer or Microsoft Store is restricted: Ask your administrator about installing winget, or use the Windows installer.
  • A command fails: Run winget --open-logs to find diagnostic logs. When reporting the problem, include the command and error message. Remove personal paths, account names, and credentials from any logs you share.
